A journey of 1000 miles begins...

Back in February, the old man got back in his DSR for the first time since his heart surgery in May of '05. Despite only getting half a lap in before he was unceremoniously booted from the track (and the weekend) by an FC doing its best kamikaze impression, you could tell he was bitten by the racing bug again. Not content with his own renewed interest in DSR, he was also looking to spread the joy.

After many years of trying, the old man finally twisted my arm into looking for a D sports racer of my own (not before my attempt to get us into a couple of TAG or shifter karts was vetoed by the women!). Of course, budget was a problem. With the my only possession of significant worth being my beloved '02 Camaro Z28, I just couldn't see a sports racer happening. We all know what comes next - street car is sold (someone got a killer deal), and race car budget (albeit meager) appears.

After looking at a few candidates and coming close to a deal or two, we settled on Ken Kaplowitz's LeGrand Mk25. The price was right, and with an identical car to Dad's there should be plenty of help (and spares!). If the old man can't get a LeGrand back on the track, I don't know who could.

We picked the car up two days before I was to leave on a nine week business trip in South Africa. Obviously in need of some work to get it race ready, the plan is to strip it down to the tub and rebuild it. A Mk18 was also part of the deal, but it ended up being a write off, save for a few magnesium bits and the LeGrand dash plate. Lots of bits too, and more old ZX10 stuff than you can shake a stick at (coming soon to eBay - the plan is to use Dad's spare '01 GSXR 1000 for power).
